An Overview of the Lasik Procedure

So you have heard all about this refractive surgery called Lasik, but what is this Lasik procedure all about? In short, Lasik involves creating a thin flap on the cornea and using a laser to reshape your cornea. Reshaping the cornea allows light to focus better on the retina, allowing you improved vision. Lasik reduces or eliminates the dependance on eye glasses and contact lenses, and can help you live a much more active life.

Many of the advantages of Lasik are little to no discomfort during the surgery and the speed of recovery for most patients. Many patients are able to see and go back to work the day after having Lasik surgery. Another advantage to Lasik is that the risk of a complication due to surgery is very low.

At this point, you may be thinking that Lasik is too good to be true. There is actually a downside to Lasik, and it is the fact that not everyone is a candidate for the surgery. The best way to find out if you are a candidate for Lasik is to call your local Lasik surgeon and sign up for a consultation. Most, if not all, Lasik doctors offer free screenings ti find out if you are a candidate and learn more about the procedure.
